Ringo with Ciggie

Description

Well, I couldn't get to sleep last night and at 2 am, got a sudden urge to draw another Ringo picture. When I started, I didn't exactly know how I wanted to do it. First, I tried cross-hatch; it turned out nice but didn't feel completed, and so I ended up with heavy shading, a technique I like to stay away from. However, I reckon I really wanted to draw him as it turned out far better than I'd expected. I know there are a few features off, especially the lips, but I tried enough to almost create a hole in the paper trying to fix them, and had to leave the lips as is.

Done with 110-HB pencil on printer paper, in 4 hours. WOOT!

I think this is really great. You did a nice job with the shading.
It looks very like him. The expression is great.
All the proportions are spot on. All the basics are there.

If you want to be taking a more realistic approach, you need to start using darker pencils. To create more of a contrast between the dark and lights. Also I think sometimes in your shading you use heavy lines, in some parts of his clothes and the upper nose. If you could get your hand on a tissue or stub, you could smoothen these parts out making them look more realistic. The hair is great aswell but once again the contrast needs to be upped. Also I think mech. pencils are great for creating hair.

Your drawings will become so much better once you start using darker pencils, tissues and stubs for making the shading smooth and maybe some mech pencils.
And also taking your time<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)" />
